Documentary Project Reflection

While watching the documentary, I felt a very strong attachment to the film that in most parts I had to pause and take a breath. During the end of the film I started to cry because I know this was a wonderful documentary but I also know that nothing will be done about the coral bleaching… This is the film that actually motivated me to travel to exotic places and see the things that may not be there in a couple years. I would really like to go see the great barrier reef but I am now afraid that it will soon not be there. This film was amazing, and I have watched it ten times since the assignment was assigned.
One thing that did surprise me was near the end of the documentary when they got a call that the coral had been doing something weird, I did not expect what I saw. The amazing, vibrant colors of the coral shocked me because I have never seen coral that color unless it was spray-painted in a novelty store. Even the coral was trying to reach out for help telling other things to look and see it, like it didn’t want to die. I really wish that this was a not a problem, but the realization is that

The only question that I have was what will happen to the crew after the film, what have they been up to since the end of filming the documentary? I hope that they would still be educating many people about their film and what is going on throughout the world. I do not think that this documentary popped up in my life because I knew that coral bleaching has been happening for quite a while. I have always been knowledgeable so all I would like to come from this film is for people to know what is happening and at least acknowledge the problem.

  1. For your next reflection, make sure to mention the documentaries name. I would love to see the imagery of the coral reefs you spoke about, and what their vibrant colors looked like. I hope that humans start respecting our natural wonder like the great barrier reef, because I would also Like to visit it one day.

  2. For someone who has personally written multiple essays on coral bleaching throughout the years, this documentary seems that it would be right up my alley. The name is Chasing Coral, correct? That is extremely useful information to add into your reflection essay, but I did enjoy reading it. Thank you shedding light on such an important issue!
